Former national player and Perak defender, Chan Wing Hoong, is now owned by Perlis after he signed a contract to join the Northern Lions team for two years, here today.

Wing Hoong, when met, was happy to have been offered to play with the team, especially under coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim, who is regarded as among the most experienced coach.

"I was interested in joining the Perlis team because of their their efficient management. Besides, I feel that Perlis can go far this season without imports," he told reporters after signing the contract at the Perlis Football Association office.

He had previously signed a contract with the Brunei DPMM team, but the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) recently confirmed that the team would not be competing in the 2009 Malaysia Super League as the Brunei Registrar of Societies cancelled the association's registration.

Consequently, many national football players had to find other alternatives to take part in the 2009 Malaysia Super League.

He said he was lucky to have been contacted by Perlis team manager Mohd Noor Aziz, who offered him a position to strengthen the Perlis defense.

"I immediately accepted the offer and will ensure that the Perlis team bring home the trophy at end of the Malaysia Super League this season," he said.

Chan Wing Hoong, who would play defense for the team, said the Super League would start on Jan 3 and the Perlis team would face Terengganu.

He said, although he had only practised once with the team yesterday, he was sure that the team would be in high spirits with the addition of two former Perak players Danial Fazly Abdullah and Ahmad Fakri Saarani.

"I will try my best to use the 12 years of experience I have as a defender to help the Northern Lions go far," he said.
